About the Library

Library Book Limit
Students may check out three physical library books at a time.

Length of Checkout Period
Library books are due three weeks from the day they are checked out. If a student would like more time to read a book, he or she is welcome to renew the book for an additional three week period.

Overdue, Lost, and Damaged Library Books
At the time a library book is checked out, a "due date" is placed on the book. Students are responsible for returning books on time. Students will be reminded about any overdue books in their English Class.  Students will be expected to pay for the replacement cost of lost or damaged books. 

Device Usage
Computers, phones, tablets, and other smart devices can only be used in the library for school purposes. Just like any classroom, district policy is that students must have permission to use a device. So, Always Ask First before using a device in the library.

Equipment Checkout Procedures
To assure that equipment will be available when needed, be sure to make reservations at least one week in advance. Equipment can be picked up in the Library between 8:00 and 8:30 and is due back by 4:15 each day.

Reserving a Cart of Books for Your Classroom
Teachers may check out a cart of books on a subject being studied in class. Teachers are asked to consult with Mrs. Plyer at least one week prior to the date when the books will be used. This is to ensure that the appropriate materials will be available. At the time of checkout, teachers will be given a list of all books checked out in their name.

Reserving the Library
Teachers may request that the a section of library tables be reserved for specific classes on specific days. This should be done at least one week in advance to ensure that space and materials will be available. However, teachers should be aware that since the Library operates on a completely flexible schedule, students with passes from other classes will be admitted to the library throughout the school day.

Before School:  When possible, the library is open before school for students who need a place to work, want to read, or need a place to collaborate.  Morning visitors must be purposeful and not disruptive to others.  Students who visit in the morning must remain until it is time to attend first period.  

During the School Day:  Students may visit the library as a class or individually with a PASS.   All students must be purposeful and not disruptive to others. Students visiting with a PASS will be admitted to the library when possible. 

During Lunch:  Some days the library will be open during lunch.  Interested students should report to the cafeteria to check-in and then ask staff on duty for a pass to the library. All students must be purposeful and not disruptive to others.  Students are responsible for cleaning their tables before leaving. *The library will close each day during C-Lunch.

After School:  The library is not open after school.

Any time students visit the library without a teacher, the students must sign-in. 

To Ask for Assistance:  Students and staff are welcome to visit the library for technical support, online resources, ideas, etc.

To Explore the Makerspace:  Students can utilize the makerspace activities when the library is open.  For more information, check out the makerspace page.

To Check Out E-books:  Students and staff can visit the library to learn to check out e-books from laptops or from other personal devices.

To Check Out Physical Books:  Students and staff are welcome to check out materials from the library.  

• Visitors must be purposeful and not disruptive to others.
• Visitors must be respectful of the facility and resources and return furniture, activities, etc. to the original state before leaving.
• Visitors may use devices for school purposes such as communication, product creation, or reading/research. 

How can I find books?

Books are organized by genre so that readers can browse the shelves to find items of interest. 

• Fiction - Books are shelved by Genre and then the author's last name. WGMS genres include Science Fiction, Fantasy, Scary, Graphic Novels,  Classics, Mysteries, Realistic Fiction, Adventure, Sports, Humor, Chick-lit, Romance, and Historical Fiction.
• Biography - Books are shelved by the subject's last name.
• Nonfiction - Books are arranged by the Dewey system.

Students are encouraged to use their school issued laptops to look up books in Destiny, the library automation system.  Here students can find the call number indicating where to find books in the library facility.
